Weekend in Rockland, ME

Last Saturday I was at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland, Maine, for a book signing with 10 or so other authors and illustrators.

Me and Down East in the Ocean were in the company of authors like, Thomas and LeeAnn Szelog: Our Point of View - Fourteen Years at a Maine LighthouseCarole Lambert: Sea Glass Hunter's Handbook, and fellow Maine Illustrator's Collective friend, Jamie Hogan with her lovely children's book, Seven Days of Daisy.
Lots of great talent and different types of books!
It was fun doing a group signing; I had a nice time chatting with the other authors and seeing their books, as well as meeting some very kind people from Down East Publishing. The Lighthouse Museum is an interesting place, too. I definitely recommend stopping in if you're ever in the area! The old lighthouse lanterns and pieces are works of art in themselves. It's interesting to see them up close and learn some history along the way.

I do love puffins
Dave and I made a weekend trip out of it for a mini-midsummer-vacation, and stayed in a nice B&B, The Old Granite Inn. It was in an ideal location right on the water by the ferry, and although our room didn't have a water view, we enjoyed the scenery and beautiful garden in the front, which seemed to be the inspiration for the artwork in our room.

Book Sightings

I get so excited when I see my books in store windows! It just blows my mind that they are out there in the world, and it's so cool. Lately I've had some sightings at Maine's Pantry in the Old Port, The Maine Historical Society gift shop, and recently Longfellow Books in Portland. A week before I took this picture, Down East in the Ocean was in a sea of Maine children's books, from new to classics that I read as a kid. I was so excited to see my name in a window next to Dahlov Ipcar, Blueberries for Sal  and Barbara Cooney's Miss Rumphius.  I came back with my camera a few days later and my book still made the cut...but I didn't realize until I got home and uploaded the photo who it's new neighbors were! Odd selection to have Larry Flint and Chelsea Handler's not-so-children's-books directly above, isn't it? Funny stuff. Enjoyed my time in the window just the same!

Maine Coast Book Shop & Cafe, Book Signing

Suzanne Buzby Hersey, My Maine author, at our table with the books.

Suzanne and I had a nice day in Damariscotta for a "My Maine" and "Down East in the Ocean" book signing on Saturday. It was a gorgeous day, such a beautiful drive and sweet town to spend it in.

They had the window ready for us!

Also very well advertised inside! Check out all the books on the wall behind the counter! Very cool.

Some activities and treats for the kiddos!

Looking forward to the next book signing...Rockland's Lighthouse Museum, July 23rd!
