It's "Look at My Fabulous Friends Friday!"

It's that time again! Time for you to meet another of my wonderfully talented friends! There are so many to pick from, and this week goes to my favorite little printmaker--Erin Jenkins!

Another UHA alum, Erin came to Maine for a short vacation last weekend, so we got to catch up on life and art, after several years of busy opposite schedules. AND I bought a "Sun Globes" print from her current, beautiful, solo show, "Carved" which is up at Silo gallery in New Milford, CT. I absolutely love my new yellow print, it's graphic and delicate design makes me feel so cheerful when I look at it...I can't wait to get a frame and find a home for it on my wall!

Original wood blocks from the "Carved" show series. I love seeing the wood blocks and how these are displayed. The whole process is such an art in itself.

Some Recent Sketches

Trees! I used to have a serious hatred of drawing trees. It used to just put me in a panic. At some point, not quite sure when, that all changed, and now I find it kind of relaxing and enjoy drawing trees! This is an oak tree sketch for a client. The final illustration will be in pen and ink, more realistic and sharp, maybe with a little hint of some color.

Another recent sketch (for a different client) is a Guernsey cow and a Holstein cow. Below is the Guernsey cow:

First up! My dear friend Kate Hyman, one of my college roomies at the University of Hartford '07, and an incredible photographer who specializes in food photography, landscape photography and retouching. Her home base in in New York City, where she's worked with a wide variety of clients, many of which are large well known brands. She is also available for freelance work.

(She's also a damn good cook and should one day open a doggy day care.)

Generosity

A few posts back, I had talked about working on the mural for the children's trauma room at the Community Counseling Center. It's a sprawling place with lots of blank walls, which they were going to decorate on a budget. I contacting a bunch of artist and illustrator friends, and they blew my mind with their generous donations! We gathered: 18 children's books, 3 poster sized prints, 2 large beautiful, matted photographs, and 30 prints and original pieces (some fully framed, others matted, all signed)!! I know the folks at the Community Counseling Center, patients and the wonderful people who work there, will enjoy this art so much and I'm so grateful for my wonderful friends and colleagues for helping out!
